CyberShare 2022 Accomplishments and Beyond

CyberShare: The Small Broadband Provider ISAC (Information Sharing and Analysis Center) grew and expanded its value in 2022.
An additional 30 companies joined CyberShare, bringing the total number of member companies to 88 and individual participants to 249. CyberShare’s value increases every time another company joins and shares its experience and expertise.
In July, CyberShare hosted an industry-wide online event featuring CISA Executive Director Brandon Wales. Sponsored by the Competitive Carriers Association, NTCA, the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, RWA, Telcom Insurance Group, and the Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (WISPA), “INARMS: Combating Cybersecurity Threats to Critical Infrastructure” provided 240 registered individuals information about nation-state threats, attacks focused on smaller operators, mitigation measures, and government resources.
CyberShare offers frequent opportunities to interact live with government officials and industry leaders. In the past year, during their twice monthly calls, participants heard from industry leaders and government experts who spoke about critical topics including cyber incident response reporting, CISA’s Cross-Sector Cybersecurity Performance Goals, the NIST Guidance for Supply Chain Risk Management, the MITRE ATT&CK Framework, policy trends and more.
During Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October, CyberShare hosted its annual CyberShare Summit, with NTCA, ACA Connects and RWA sponsoring. More than 160 security, IT, and C-suite professionals attended to learn about and discuss the current cyberthreat and regulatory environment. Attendees heard from cybersecurity experts from the industry and government and participated in critical conversations regarding cybersecurity, technology, supply chain, and telecommunications.
CyberShare participants receive daily threat reports and weekly technical analysis. Participants receive time-sensitive, urgent information about data breaches and cybersecurity vulnerabilities in software and security programs. CyberShare participants learned about a serious vulnerability impacting their equipment before the details were made available by the manufacturer. Through CyberShare, participants were able to communicate the latest updates and early mitigation details.
Slack was added this year to provide CyberShare participants a forum to collaborate in real time on specific topics, best practices, and requests for information. Conversations were managed in separate channels dedicated to common security topics (e.g., cloud security, insider threats, experiences and best practices, phishing, policy and compliance, threat intel and tradecraft, vulnerabilities).
